1987MY 3D, 4D, SW DL & GL Vehicles Equipped with 4WD and 1985,1986MY 3D, 4D, SW DL & GL Vehicles Equipped with 4WD that have had
P/N 441 01 GA640 - EPF installed.
SUBJECT:
Preheat Tube Replacement
Subaru of America has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in some 1985, 1986 and 1987 model year Subaru DL and GL
versions of 4 door sedans, 3 door coupes and station wagons equipped with 4WD.
The defect is due to the design of the preheat tube which, under severe operating conditions, may smoke and deteriorate. The use of certain non-genuine
replacement preheat tubes may result in combustion. An engine compartment fire is possible without prior warning.
To prevent this potential condition from occurring, it is necessary to replace the existing preheat tube with a new design preheat tube and affix a label to
the hood warning that future replacements must use genuine Subaru preheat tubes.
VEHICLES INVOLVED
Involved are 1987MY DL and GL (4WD) 3-door coupes, 4-door sedans and station wagons and 1985MY and 1986MY DL & GL (4WD) 3-door
coupes, 4-door sedans and station wagons that have had P/N 441 01 GA640 - EPF installed.
