SUBJECT:
1986 ACCESSORY PRODUCT CHANGES/REVISIONS
This Bulletin describes some updates which have been made to 1986 Accessories.
AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEMS
A.
Changes/revisions that will affect A/C kit installation into the Station Wagon, Sedan and the new 3-Door, include the following:
1.
Line installed micro switch starting with 1986 MY.
2.
Elimination of lap cooler assembly from A/C kits. L.I. vehicles will have it omitted starting from November, 1985 production.
3.
No FICD actuator, lever, or solenoid to install on GL automatic transmission vehicles with SPI engine.
4.
It is not necessary to exchange the cooling fan shroud on GL automatic transmission vehicles with SPI engine. (Hitachi installations only).
B.
Specific changes for Lone Star A/C system (kit P/N SOA 329A103), for 1986 include the following:
1.
The 360~ engine driven fan shroud has been changed to an abbreviated fan guard.
C.
Specific changes for Hitachi A/C (kit P/N SOA 332AI03 and LI. system) for 1986 include the following:
1.
Silencer (muffler) assembly incorporated into the back of the compressor like the XT Coupe, so the separate silencer is omitted.
2.
Redesigned discharge hose and pipe because of the omission of the silencer.
3.
Evaporator sealing clamps have been redesigned and lightened.
4.
Evaporator drain hose wall thickness increased and the clamp is eliminated.
5.
Locating tape on the evaporator drain hose marks the correct grommet placement.
6.
Bottom evaporator case redesigned for improved water drainage.
7.
Idler pulley assembly material and finish changed slightly to provide for a more uniform appearance.
D.
Specific changes for Matsushita A/C system (L.I. only) for 1986 include the following:
1.
Fan pressure switch and hi-low pressure switch are combined to be a "Trinary Switch."
2.
Rubber cover eliminated from the A/C relay and an epoxy resin material will replace it to make relay waterproof.
3.
Compressor bracket is separated into two pieces in order to change the compressor mounting installation position to increase belt wrap on
the pulley.
4.
Change of the compressor mounting position necessitates a change in drive belt size.
5.
Suction hose length changes due to the change of compressor mounting position.
6.
Pulser sensor bracket is now two pieces to allow for precise positioning and improved strength.
7.
Slight revision of idler pulley and idler pulley bolt results in increased clearances between idler pulley and alternator drive belt.
E.
Specific changes that will affect the XT Coupe and Hitachi A/C (kit P/N SOA 332A102 and L.I. system), for 1986 include the following:
1.
Discharge hose bracket redesigned for increased hood clearance.
2.
Evaporator sealing clamps have been redesigned and lightened.
3.
Evaporator drain hose wall thickness increased and the clamp is eliminated.
4.
Locating tape on evaporator drain hose marks correct grommet placement.
5.
Evaporator case redesigned for improved water drainage and increased air flow.
6.
Idler pulley assembly material and finish changed slightly to provide for a more uniform appearance.
7.
Elimination of lap cooler grille from kit. All vehicles will have lap cooler line installed from November, 1985 production.
8.
Increased air flow from ducts due to more efficient shaping and increased voltage at the blower motor.
CRUISE CONTROL
A.
Changes/revisions to the 1986 Specific Cruise Control for the Station Wagon, Sedan, and 3-Door include the following:
1.
Redesigned control switch is longer to accomodate the longer 1986 turn signal shaft. Two mounting holes in the switch will allow one
replacement part for 1985 and 1986 applications.
2.
Redesigned solder joints for electronic modules to improve durability.
B.
New Cruise Control kit for RX and 3-Door Turbo vehicles - (P/N SOA 386C103)
1.
Newly designed kit will retrofit on 1985 models.
