If you encounter a Subaru vehicle with a bumper skin or grille assembly that requires refinishing, use the following procedures for Polypropylene, and
ABS plastic body components:
Subaru of America is not responsible for any inaccuracies in the painting procedure information included in this bulletin. Because these procedures are
updated on a continuing basis, paint manufacturers have requested that dealers contact their local Jobber/Distributor for the most up-to-date painting
information.
POLYPROPYLENE BUMPER SKIN PAINTING PROCEDURE
Manufacturer:
Sikkens (A division of Akzo Coatings America, Inc.)
1.
Degrease the entire bumper with Sikkens M-600 wax and grease remover.
2.
Scuff with 3M Scotchbrite Pad #7448
3.
Degrease again with M-600.
4.
Spray two coats of Plastoflex Primer. Allow a flash-off time of 7-10 minutes between coats.
5.
After a twenty minute flash-off at 65~F, Plastoflex can be recoated with Sikkens Autocryl or Autobase color.
*If sanding a Plastoflex Primer is necessary due to dirt particles, allow 16 hours to dry thoroughly.
NOTE:
Plastoflex requires no mixing, it's ready to spray.

POLYPROPYLENE BUMPER SKIN
^
Wash surface to be painted with 3812-S enamel reducer to remove wax, grease, etc.

Apply one full coat of 329-S primer
^
Allow primer to dry one hour before applying top coat.
^
Top coat with either DuPont Lucite or Centari top coats.

Solvent clean bumper with R7 K 156 (SHER-WILL-CLEAN).
2.
Allow to dry and prime area to be painted with P3C24 according to label directions.
3.
Topcoat with one of the following systems:
A.
Solid Colors
a.
Acrylic Lacquer + V6 V 299 MULTI-FLEX or
b.
ACRYLYD Acrylic Enamel + V6 V 247 + V6 V 299
B.
Basecoat/Clearcoat Colors
