ALL 1990 AND 1991 LEGACY MODELS EQUIPPED WITH 4EAT
SUBJECT:
4EAT ATF AUXILIARY FILTER INSTALLATION
An Automatic Transmission Fluid Filter Kit has been introduced for installation on Legacy 4EAT models. The filter traps ATF contaminants and will
eliminate the minute particles which can cause control valve problems. The filter is designed to be maintenance-free under normal conditions.
Owners of affected vehicles will be notified by mail to bring their vehicles to the dealers for this installation. The owner's letter is authorization for the
dealer to submit a claim for reimbursement. This kit should also be installed on the affected vehicles if you are replacing or repairing the 4EAT Assy.
There is no need to replace the radiator regardless of transmission failure.
TOOLS NEEDED:
No special tools are required, only the following hand tools: a pair of pliers, # 2 Phillips screwdriver, 3/8" torque wrench, 3/8" ratchet wrench with a 14
mm socket, 10 mm socket, a 10 mm combination wrench, funnel and a safety blow gun with a compressed air source.
NOTE:
ALWAYS USE THE APPROPRIATE SAFETY EQUIPMENT. EXAMPLES: SAFETY GLASSES, GLOVES, ETC. WHEN PERFORMING THE
FLUSHING AND FILTER INSTALLATION.

Oil Filter Kit, Part Number 31099AA090 which consists of the following parts:

Filter

Filter clamp protector

Filter clamp bracket

Band clamp (retainer)

Three (3) 6 mm x 12 mm bolts
6)
Two (2) hoses
7)
Four (4) hose clamps
8)
Hose chafe protector

NOTE:
WHILE PERFORMING THIS PROCEDURE, THE ENGINE ASSEMBLY MUST BE COVERED TO GUARD AGAINST AUTOMATIC
TRANSMISSION FLUID FROM POSSIBLY SPRAYING ON THE DRIVE BELT CAM COVERS, SEALS, ETC. AND OTHER AREAS IN WHICH
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID MAY HAVE A DETRIMENTAL EFFECT.
