A/T - Oil Cooler Flushing Procedure

ALL LEGACY WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

SUBJECT:

FLUSHING THE TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER

The transmission oil cooler must be flushed out whenever there are signs of dirt or internal material in the oil pan, or if there are signs of transmission
overheating.

FLUSHING PROCEDURE

NOTE:

While performing this procedure it is recorded that the engine assembly is covered to guard against automatic transmission fluid from
possibly spraying on the drive belt, cam covers, seals, etc. and other areas in which automatic transmission fluid may have a detrimental
effect.

1.

Remove the coolant reserve tank from the radiator, being careful not to damage the air conditioning hose.

2.

Disconnect the inlet line (top line) from the transmission cooler at Point (A) shown in the figure below.

3.

Disconnect the outlet line (bottom line) from the transmission cooler at Point (B) by first removing protection shield held secure with 2 screws.

4.

A temporary section of hose should be clamped on to Position (A) and positioned downward inside a container to collect the transmission fluid
during back-flushing.

5.

Block off line (B) and fill the transmission oil cooler at Position

(A)

with automatic transmission fluid.

6.

Release the end of line (B) and blow compressed air through line (B).

7.

Confirm that any contaminants that may have been blocking the oil cooler have been collected in the container from line (A). Repeat this process
several times if necessary to ensure all contaminants are removed.

8.

Confirm that the transmission cooler is not blocked, remove the temporary hose from Point (A) and assemble in reverse order.

9.

Check fluid level and add transmission oil if necessary.
