About the Outback
Subaru uses the Outback name for two vehicles: a raised, Legacy-based wagon sold from 1994, first as the Legacy Outback, and the Impreza-based Outback Sport, sold in North America from 1994 to 2011. Most versions have all-wheel drive as standard. The Outback became a separate model from the Legacy in 2000.
What these manuals cover
- Outback wagon, 1996–2008: the 2.5-litre flat-four, the 2.5 turbo and the 3.0-litre flat-six, including the L.L.Bean and VDC models.
- Outback Sport, 1997–2010: the 2.2 and then 2.5-litre flat-four.
Tip: earlier Outback wagons are also listed as Legacy Outback, and Outback Sports are part of the Impreza range.
