SUBJECT:
ODS (Occupant Detection System) Front Passenger Seatbelt Warning Chime
INTRODUCTION
If you encounter a customer complaint that the front passenger seat belt warning chime sounds with no one sitting in the seat, there is the possibility that
the hinge spring needs to be replaced.
PRODUCTION LINE CHANGE
The new style spring was used in production starting in August, 2004 with the VINs shown.
PART INFORMATION
Note:
Make sure to use the correct kit based on the interior color.
REPAIR PROCEDURE/INFORMATION
Refer to the STIS web site for the applicable Subaru Service Manual for diagnostics and troubleshooting; if nothing is found proceed with the following
repair procedure.
1)
Measure each seat position sensor output data using the SSMII (Subaru Select Monitor) and record the values; refer to the Subaru Service Manual,
Body Section 8, Occupant Detection System (Diagnostics) OD (diag), Subaru Select Monitor.
Note:
When measuring make sure the following criteria is met:

Ambient temperature is between 32° F to 104° F.
^
Vehicle is parked on level surface.
^
Seat slide position is all the way back and slide rail is securely locked.
^
Seat backrest is fully upright and redining position is securely locked.
