NUMBER: 15-115-05
DATE: 05/04/05
APPLICABILITY:
2005MY Legacy Wagon and Outback Wagon
SUBJECT:
AM Band Radio Noise
INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this bulletin is to address engine ignition noise when listening to low output AM radio stations while the engine is running. Engine noise
can be transferred to the rear glass antenna from the rear window defogger grid. To reduce the noise, a ground wire (radio cord assembly) may need to be
installed.
PARTS INFORMATION
PRODUCTION LINE CHANGE
A ground wire has been added to the rear gate wiring harness in production starting in February 2005, with VIN 5*373702.
REPAIR PROCEDURES/INFORMATION:
1)
Start by checking the basics, ground wires, grounding bolts, antenna leads, antenna grid, etc. Does the rear glass have window tinting? If so, that
will cause poor radio reception. If everything checks out ok, proceed with installing a radio cord assembly.
2)
Remove rear gate trim panel; refer to the applicable Subaru Service Manual for the procedure. Use extreme care not to scratch or damage the trim
panel when removing or reinstalling.
