Oxygen Sensor: Service and Repair

Oxygen Sensor Replacement

Removal

NOTE: Do not use excessive force to remove the oxygen sensor, especially when the exhaust manifold is cold.  Damage to the manifold may

result.

1.

Disconnect sensor harness connector.

2.

Apply SUBARU CRC (004301003) or equivalent to oxygen sensor threads and let stand for at least one minute.

3.

Loosen oxygen sensor by turning it 10 to 40 degrees with special tool (SOCKET: 499990110) and wrench.

4.

Repeat application of SUBARU CRC (004301003) or equivalent and let stand again for at least one minute. 

5.

Finish removing the sensor.

Installation

NOTE: Never apply anti-seize compound to the louvred end of the oxygen sensor.

1.

Apply anti-seize compound only to threaded portion of oxygen sensor.

2.

Install sensor in manifold with socket and wrench and torque to 25-34 N-m (18-25 ft-lb). 

3.

Connect sensor harness connector.
