Crankshaft Position Sensor: Service and Repair

The crank angle sensor is not servicable. If faulty, the entire distributor must be replaced.

REMOVAL

1.

Disconnect the negative battery terminal.

2.

Remove the distributor cap.

3.

Disconnect the electrical connector.

4.

Remove the bolt securing the distributor to the camcase.

5.

Twist and pull up to remove distributor.

INSTALLATION

#1 TDC

1.

Place #1 cylinder at TDC compression stroke. 

Distributor Alignment Marks

2.

Align the mark on the distributor drive gear with the mark on the distributor housing.

3.

While preventing the distributor from turning, install the distributor into the cam case.
NOTE: The distributor shaft will turn a few degrees when it engages the camshaft.

4.

Install the fastener and tighten slightly.

5.

Connect the electrical connector.

6.

Install the distributor cap.

7.

Connect the negative battery terminal.

8.

Refer to ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES and adjust ignition timing.
