Idle Speed: Adjustments

Idle Speed Adjustment

Before attempting engine idle speed adjustment, make the following preparations:

1.

Ensure that ignition timing is correct.

2.

Ensure that all vacuum hoses are secure and in good condition.

3.

Fully warm up engine.  To bring oxygen sensor up to temperature, run engine at 2500 rpm for one minute after engine warm up.

4.

Disconnect and plug EVAP system purge hose(s) at opposite side of canister.

IDLE SPEED ADJUSTMENT

1.

Hook up tachometer.

2.

Ensure that auxiliary air valve is completely closed.

3.

Adjust idle speed with idle adjusting screw on throttle body.

4.

Models with A/C are equipped with a fast idle solenoid.  Fast idle rpm can be set with a fast idle adjusting screw.

IDLE SPEED (RPM)

Manual Transmission:

700 ± 100

Automatic Transmission:

800 ± 100

Fast idle with A/C:

850 ± 50
