About the Grand Vitara
The Grand Vitara is the second and third generation of Suzuki's Vitara SUV, known as the Escudo in Japan. The second generation, launched in 1998, was a body-on-frame off-roader with a V6; the third generation followed in 2005. The fourth generation of 2015 dropped the "Grand" and became a road-oriented crossover.
What these manuals cover
- 1999–2004 (second generation): the 2.5-litre V6, in JS, JLS, JLX and Limited trims, with two or four-wheel drive.
- 2006–2008 (third generation): the 2.7-litre V6.
- 2009–2010: the Suzuki 2.4-litre four and a GM-sourced 3.2-litre V6, which replaced the 2.7.
Tip: the four-cylinder North American Vitara of 1999–2004 is a shorter model, sold alongside the Grand Vitara.
