Steering Gear: Service and Repair
Steering Gear Box Replacement
1.
Remove steering column shaft to steering gear box coupling bolt.
2.
Remove radiator under cover.
3.
Using tie rod remover 09913-65210, or equivalent, disconnect ball stud of drag rod and steering damper from pitman arm.
4.
Remove steering gear box attaching bolts, then steering gear box.
5.
Reverse procedure to install noting the following:
a. Torque drag rod nut to 22-50.5 ft. lbs.
b. Torque tie rod castle nut to 22-39.5 ft. lbs.
c. Steering gear box attaching bolts to 51-65 ft. lbs.
d. Torque steering damper nut to 25.5-39.5 ft. lbs.
