Using valve guide removal tool No. 09916-44511 or equivalent, remove valve guides as shown in Fig. 12. Do not reuse valve guides after
removal.

Using a suitable micrometer and bore gauge, measure diameter of valve stem and valve guide inside diameter, to determine stem clearance in
guide.

3.

Clearances should be as follows:
a. Intake valve stem diameter should be 0.2742-0.2748 inch (6.965-6.980mm) and exhaust valve stem diameter 0.2737-0.2742 inch

(6.950-6.965mm).

b. Valve guide inside diameter should be 0.2756-0.2761 inch (7.000-7.015mm).
c. Stem to guide clearance should be, intake; 0.0008--0.0019 inch (0.020-0.050mm): exhaust; 0.0014-0.0025 inch (0.035-0.065mm).

If bore gauge is not available, check valve stem end deflection using a suitable dial indicator as shown in Fig. 13. Move stem end back and forth, 
Fig. 13. and measure valve stem end deflection.

5.

Valve stem end deflection should be as follows:
a. Intake, 0.005 inch (0.14mm).
b. Exhaust, 0.007 inch (0.18mm).

6.

If specifications are not as specified, replace valve and guide as necessary.
