Intake Manifold: Service and Repair
1. Relieve fuel system pressure as outlined under Technician Safety Information.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable, then drain engine coolant.
3. Remove strut tower bar and air temperature sensor.
4. Remove air cleaner upper case and outlet hose as a unit.
5. Remove throttle cover, then disconnect accelerator cable.
6. On models with automatic transmission, disconnect throttle cable.
7. Disconnect the following electrical connectors:
a. Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve.
b. Idle air control (IAC) valve.
c. Throttle position (TP) sensor.
d. Manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor.
e. Evaporative emissions (EVAP) solenoid purge valve.
f.
Ground terminal from intake manifold.
8. Disconnect hoses as necessary.

9. Remove throttle body, Fig. 2.
10. Remove intake manifold front and rear stiffeners.
11. Disconnect water pipe from intake manifold.
12. Remove intake manifold and gasket from cylinder head.
13. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Install new intake manifold gasket.
b. Tighten to specifications.
c. Adjust accelerator and transmission throttle cable play.
d. Ensure there are no fuel, water or exhaust gas leakages.
