Air Bag Disposal and Deployment
AIR BAG MODULE DISPOSAL
When handling a deployed air bag assembly, safety glasses and rubber gloves should be worn. Vehicle interior and HVAC ducts should be
vacuumed. If sinus or throat irritation is encountered during air bag removal, exit vehicle and breathe fresh air. If skin irritation is
encountered, flush affected area with cool water. If sinus, throat, skin or any other type of irritation continues, consult a physician. Wash
hands and rinse thoroughly with water after handling a deployed air bag assembly.
A deployed air bag unit should be removed as outlined under Removal and Installation. After unit has been removed, it should be placed in a heavy
duty plastic bag and sealed securely, then placed with automotive scrap. All undeployed air bag units must be deployed prior to disposal.
OUTSIDE VEHICLE DEPLOYMENT
1. Disarm SRS as outlined under Air Bag Disarming and Arming. See: Air Bag(s) Arming and Disarming/Service and Repair
2. Remove air bag module(s) as outlined under Removal and Installation.
3. Connect special air bag deployment harness tool No. 09932-75030, or equivalent. Plug harness leads together.
4. If deploying a driver's air bag module, place air bag with cover side facing upward, in a clear, well ventilated outdoor location free of flammable
objects. Area should be clear for at least six feet in all directions.
