Sidekick JX 2D 4WD L4-1.6L (1998)
Alignment: Service and Repair
PREPARATION
1. Place vehicle in non-loaded state on level floor.
2. Set steering wheel in straight state.
3. Check that inflation pressure of each tire is adjusted properly and disc wheel is free from deflection.
4. Check that each suspension part is free from bend, dent, wear or damage in any other form.
5. Check that ground clearance at the right and left is just about the same.
FRONT END ALIGNMENT
Camber and Caster
Camber: 30° ± 1°
Caster: 1°30' ± 1°
1. Should camber or caster be found out of specifications upon inspection, locate its cause first. If it is in damaged, loose, bent, dented or worn
suspension parts, they should be replaced. If it is in body, repair it so as to attain specifications.
2. To prevent possible incorrect reading of camber or caster, vehicle front end must be moved up and down a few times before inspection.
Steering Angle
Inside: 32.5°
Outside: 30.5°
1. When tie rod or tie rod end was replaced, check toe and then also steering angle with turning radius gauges.
2. If steering angle is not correct, check if right and left tie rods are equal in length ("A" in figure), then adjust it by changing length of pitman arm
stopper bolts.
Length "a": Approximately 5 mm (0.20 inch)
NOTE: If tie rod lengths were changed to adjust steering angle, reinspect toe-in.
3. Reference Information:
Side slip: For inspecting front wheel side slip with side slip tester:
Side slip limit: Less than 3 mm/m (Less than 0.118 inch/3 ft.)
If side slip exceeds above limit, toe-in or front wheel alignment may out not be correct.
Toe Setting
Toe-In: 2 - 6 mm (0.08 - 0.24 inch)
1. Toe is adjusted by changing tie rod length. Loosen right and left tie rod end lock nuts first and then rotate right and left tie rods by the same
amount to align toe-in to specification.
2. In this adjustment, right and left tie rods should become equal in length.
