Condenser HVAC: Service and Repair

CONDENSER 

Removal 

1) Disconnect negative (-) cable at battery.
2) Disable air bag system.
3) Recover refrigerant by using recovery and recycling equipment.Be sure to  follow the instruction manual for the equipment.The amount of

compressor oil removed must be measured and the same amount added to the system.

4) Remove front bumper (Refer to Section 8 "BODY SERVICE").
5) Disconnect compressor delivery hose from condenser inlet fittings.

NOTE: As soon as above hose and pipe are disconnected,cap opened fittings so that moisture and dust do not enter condenser.

6) Remove horn.
7) Disconnect air bag (inflator) forward (discriminating) sensor coupler.
8) Remove hood lock member with hood latch and air bag (inflator) forward (discriminating) sensor.

WARNING: When handling the air bag (inflator) forward (discriminating) sensor,be careful not to drop it or apply an impact to it.If an
excessive impact was applied (e.g., dropped from a height of 91.4 cm (3 feet) or more,never attempt disassembly or repair but replace it
with a new one.
Failure to follow proper procedures could result in possible air bag deployment,personal injury,damage to parts or air bag being unable
to deploy when necessary. 

9) Disconnect fan motor wire at coupler.

10) Remove condenser together with fan and receiver/dryer.

NOTE: Be careful not to damage fins of condenser and radiator.

11) Remove cooling fan and receiver/dryer from condenser.

Installation 

1) Reverse removal sequence to install condenser.

NOTE:  When replacing condenser,add 20 to 30 cc of refrigerating oil from compressor suction-side.

2) Enable air bag system.
3) Evacuate and charge system according to previously-described procedure.
