PROM - Programmable Read Only Memory: All Technical Service Bulletins
Engine Controls - Extended Cranking Time to Start
Section Title: Engine
TSB No. TS 06 06168
Division: Automotive
Category: Technical
SUBJECT:
EXTENDED CRANKING TIME
MODEL(S): SX4 (RW420)
YEAR: 2007-2008
CONDITION:
When re-starting an engine after it has been shut off for several hours, some extended cranking time might be necessary to start the engine. All diagnostic
symptom procedures have been followed without success.
CAUSE:
When shut off, the engine may randomly stop rotating at a position with the intake valve and exhaust valve open in any given cylinder. This may allow
exhaust gas to enter the intake system. This will cause extended cranking until the exhaust gas is cleared from the intake.
CORRECTION:
Reprogram the Engine Control Module (ECM) with the latest Suzuki ECU Programming System (SEPS) software. This software update will stop the
engine rotation in a position which reduces or eliminates the possibility of the intake and exhaust valve being open at the same time in any given
cylinder.
Refer to the General TSB 05 XXXXX "ECM (ECU) Reprogramming Verification Procedure Using the Suzuki SDS Tool". If the vehicle does not have
the latest version follow the reprogramming procedure described below.
