5. Using a micrometer (2), measure the thickness of the removed shim (1), and determine replacement shim by calculating the thickness of new shim

with the following formula and table.

Shim thickness specification

Intake side: A = B + C - 0.20 mm (0.008 in.) 
Exhaust side: A = B + C - 0.30 mm (0.012 in.) 
A: Thickness of new shim
B: Thickness of removed shim
C: Measured valve clearance
