Timing Chain: Description and Operation
Timing Chain Description
The timing chain coordinates the crankshaft and the dual overhead camshafts and keeps them synchronized. The timing chain and the sprockets are
toothed so that there is no slippage between them. A timing chain tensioner, a timing chain lever, and a fixed chain guide maintain the timing chain's
correct tension. The timing chain is made of steel and under normal operation, virtually no maintenance (replacement of timing chain) is required. The
timing chain requires appropriate lubrication.
