Check thermostatic movement of wax pellet as follows:
a. Immerse thermostat in water, and heat water gradually. 
b. Check that valve starts to open at specific temperature. If valve starts to open at a temperature substantially below or above specific

temperature, thermostat unit should be replaced with a new one. Such a unit, if reused, will bring about overcooling or overheating tendency.
Temp. at which valve begins to open: 

J20 and H25 engines: 82 ± 2°C (179 ± 3.6°F)  
G16 engine: 88 ± 2°C (190 ± 3.6°F) 

Temp. at which valve becomes fully open: 

J20 and H25 engines: 95°C (203°F)  
G16 engine: 100°C (212°F) 

Valve lift:

J20 and H25 engines: more than 8 mm at 95°C (203°F) 
G16 engine: more than 8 mm at 100°C (212°F)
