Rear Screen, Remove and Install (Model F69, F07)

Note:   When carrying out the operation, the general information in particular is to be noted – see "General instructions on bonded panes".

Upper C-pillar inner panelling – see operation "Upper Inner Panelling – C-pillar, Remove and Install (Model F69)" or "Upper Inner Panelling – C-pillar, Remove and Install (Model F07)". Disconnect wiring harness plug for heated rear screen (2).

Only Model F69: Remove centre brake light – see operation "Centre Brake Light, Remove and Install (Model F69)" in group "N".

Rear screen trim strip.

Glaze rear screen with Cutting Wire MKM-589-A:

Use pliers to stick cutting wire through the cement bead from the inside to the outside in side area of C-pillar (1).

Completely glaze rear screen (cutting wire length, approx. 600 mm). Pay attention to connections in the area of "heated rear screen" wiring harness plug; they may not be damaged under any circumstances!

  Remove

Remove glass using Oscillating Knife MKM-846-1E or MKM-846-1P.:

Only Model F69: Remove roof antenna.

Cut out rear screen from outside in a circular manner with Cutting Knife MKM-846-27. Insert cutting knife at upper corner (1).

Note:   Clamp cutting blade into oscillating cutter so that the tip of the cutting blade points in the direction of the oscillating cutter.

In the area of wiring harness plug for "heated rear screen" note connections, they must in no way be damaged.

Carefully guide around cutting blade in area of upper corner. If necessary, re-cut in the pane corners with MKM-846-28.

  Remove

Lift rear screen out of the frame with MKM-641 and lay aside on holding device (1).

Smooth down adhesive bead on frame to a thickness of approx. 1 mm using MKM-846-70.

  Install

If re-using rear screen: Smooth down adhesive bead to a thickness of approx. 1 mm using MKM-846-70. Attach rear screen trim strip.

For new rear screen: Clean area to be cemented (2), connect rear screen trim strip, apply "black" glass primer and allow to set for 15 minutes.

Apply glass adhesive (3), use pre-cut applicator nozzle. Install rear screen with MKM-641.

  Install

Only tension rear screen slightly using MKM-591.

  2. shows Model F07.

Caution

Lay-over times for freshly cemented glass panes in connection with glass adhesives and airbag equipment – see "Vehicle Lay-Over Times". Observe adhesive manufacturer's processing instructions and those on packaging.

  Install

Centre brake light, wiring harness plug for "heated rear screen" upper C-pillar inner panelling, roof antenna.
