Rear Springs and/or Damping Rings of the Rear Springs, Remove and Install

Note:   Only replace springs in pairs. When replacing the springs, the springs which correspond to the vehicle version and equipment level available from Aftersales must be used.

  Remove

In vehicles with level control: Release level control air pressure at the filler valve (1).

Note:   When lifting at the jacking points on the vehicle, take care that all the fastening bolts for the rear axle and the contact points for the centring device remain accessible.

In addition, on the Astra-G Eco, ensure that the mounts on the lifting platform do not prevent the air guide plate being removed.

  Remove

Remove rear wheels.

For the Astra-G Eco: Detach fastening nuts (1) and clip (3) for left part of air guide plate from the vehicle underbody. Remove left part of air guide plate from vehicle underbody. Detach fastening nuts (2) and clip (3) for right part of air guide plate from the vehicle underbody. Remove right part of air guide plate from vehicle underbody.

  Remove

In vehicles with level control: Release level control air pressure at the filler valve.

Remove rear wheel.

Position hydraulic jack, KM-904 and KM-6002 (1) under the rear axle - take care that the vehicle does not lift away from the mounts on the lifting platform. Remove shock absorber (2) from rear axle.

Lower hydraulic jack carefully until rear axle is freely suspended and the spring is relieved of pressure - ensure that the brake pressure hoses are not stretched. Press rear axle down slightly and remove springs with damping rings at the top and bottom - note installed position of the damping rings.

  Install

Insert upper (1) and lower (2) damping ring in spring - ensure they are seated perfectly.

Insert springs in spring mounts on rear axle and vehicle underbody.

Raise rear axle with hydraulic jack until the fixing holes for the shock absorber fastening are aligned - ensure that the vehicle does not lift off the mounts on the lifting platform.

Attach shock absorber (3) to rear axle - tightening torque 110 Nm.

Lower hydraulic jack and remove.

  Install

For the Astra-G Eco: Position right part of air guide plate on vehicle underbody. Attach fastening nuts (2) for right part of air guide plate to the vehicle underbody - tightening torque 2.2 Nm. Position left part of air guide plate on vehicle underbody. Attach fastening nuts (1) for left part of air guide plate to the vehicle underbody. Attach clip (3) on both sides.

Fit rear wheels - tightening torque 110 Nm / 81 lbf. ft.

  Adjust

For vehicles with level control: Fill system to 0.8 bar initially and then correct depending on loading - see operation "Level Control, Adjust".
