Brake Linings – Front Wheel Brake, Remove and Install (Steering Knuckle with Integrated Brake Carrier)

Note:   All brake linings on axle must be replaced.

  Remove

Remove front wheels.

Remove brake lining sensor (1) from brake lining, if fitted.

Lever out retention spring (2) with screwdriver.

Remove dust caps from guide bolts.

Unscrew guide bolts (3) for brake caliper (4).

Remove brake caliper with brake linings from brake carrier.

Remove outer brake lining (2) from brake caliper.

Withdraw inner brake lining (1) with retention clip from pistons.

  Clean

Clean guides (arrow) in brake backing with soft wire brush. Coat cleaned guides with anti-squeak compound.

  Inspect

Check brake linings and brake discs for wear – see operation "Brake Linings and Brake Discs, Check for Wear".

  Install

Push back piston with piston pusher.

Caution

Brake fluid level increases in brake fluid reservoir. Remove brake fluid using syphon bottle if necessary. Replace brake caliper if brake caliper is leaking or protective cover on brake caliper is damaged – see operation "Brake Caliper – Front Wheel Brake, Remove and Install (Steering Knuckle with Integrated Brake Carrier)".

Note:   When installing the brake lining ensure that the arrow (1) on the rear face of lining points in the direction of rotation of brake disc when the vehicle is travelling forwards.

Push inner brake lining with retention clip into pistons. Insert outer brake lining in brake caliper.

  Install

Place brake caliper with brake linings on brake carrier – ensure that brake hose is not twisted. Attach brake caliper to brake carrier with guide pins (1) – tightening torque 27.5 Nm / 20 lbf. ft. Fold out retaining spring (3) and press over housing lugs (4) – ensure proper fit of retaining springs. Insert protective plugs (2) into guide sleeves.

Attach brake lining sensor to inner brake lining, if fitted.

Connect front wheels – 110 Nm / 81 lbf. ft.

Actuate brake pedal repeatedly. Top up brake fluid to "MAX" mark on brake fluid reservoir.
