Overhaul brake calliper for rear brake > < Brakes Brake linings

Brake Calliper of the Rear Wheel Brake, Remove and Install (Bosch Brake Calliper)

  Remove

Release parking brake lever. Remove folding cover for parking brake. Release parking brake cable by unscrewing adjustment nut.

Top up brake fluid reservoir to "MAX" mark and seal with MKM-558-10.

Detach rear wheel.

Push down actuation lever with screwdriver and detach parking brake cable (2). Detach retention clip and withdraw parking brake cable from bracket.

Detach brake hose (1) from brake calliper – collect escaping brake fluid and seal aperture.

Remove brake pads - see operation "Brake Pads of the Rear Wheel Brake, Remove and Install".

Remove brake calliper from brake carrier (3). Detach fastening bolts (4) for brake carrier of brake carrier and remove brake carrier.

Caution

Replace the brake calliper or brake carrier if brake calliper is leaking, protective cap on brake calliper is damaged, sealing sleeve for brake carrier is damaged or guide bolts are corroded.

  Install

Attach brake carrier to brake backing plate – tightening torque 100 Nm / 74 lbf. ft. Clean thread and insert fastening bolts with locking compound.

Coat guide bolts (1) with silicon grease and mount brake calliper on brake carrier – ensure correct seating of dust sleeve on the guide bolts.

Install brake pads - see operation "Brake Pads of the Rear Wheel Brake, Remove and Install".

When replacing brake calliper, the parking brake cable bracket in vehicles with absorbers on brake calliper must be transferred: Detach spring (3) on old and new brake calliper and remove fastening bolt (1) for parking brake cable bracket (2) from old and new brake calliper. Remove parking brake cable bracket with damping weight from old brake calliper and attach to new brake calliper – clean thread and insert fastening bolt with locking compound – tightening torque 11 Nm / 8 lbf. ft. Attach spring to parking brake cable bracket and parking brake lever.

Attach parking brake cable (5, illustration shows parking brake cable with integrated absorber) to bracket with new retaining clip. Press actuating lever downwards with screwdriver and attach parking brake cable.

Attach brake hose (4) with new seal rings to brake calliper – tightening torque 40 Nm / 30 lbf. ft.

Attach rear wheel – 110 Nm / 81 lbf. ft.

  Inspect

Bleed brake system and check for leaks – see operation "Brake System, Bleed and Check for Leaks".

Actuate brake pedal repeatedly. Top up brake fluid to "MAX" mark on brake fluid reservoir.

Adjust parking brake – see operation "Parking Brake, Adjust".

Note:   For vehicles with rear disc brake, after adjusting the parking brake at the rear brake calliper on each side of the vehicle between the actuation lever and stop, a clearance of 2.5 mm is permissible on each side.
