Brake Linings and Brake Discs, Check for Wear

Note: The replacement
adhesive films (1) obtainable from Aftersales must be used to refit
brake linings, attached with adhesive, on the rear brake callipers
(Lucas/TRW from MY '02) after removal.

Remove
Remove brake linings – see operation "Brake Linings for
Front Wheel Brakes, Remove and Install (Steering Knuckle with
Integrated Brake Carrier)", "Brake Linings for Front Brake Linings,
Remove and Install (Steering Knuckle without Integrated Brake
Carrier)" or "Brake Linings for Rear Brakes, Remove and
Install".
Measure
Measure remaining thickness of brake linings with MKM-230-A
(1).
Permissible minimum thickness of brake
linings with brake lining plate:
Front brake linings:

2 mm

Rear brake linings:
|
2 mm
|

Measure brake disc thickness using
MKM-230-A (1) in several positions. Permissible brake disc
thickness tolerance in several positions: 0.01 mm.
Permissible minimum thickness of brake:

Solid front brake disc, steering knuckle with integrated brake
carrier:

8.0 mm
|
Ventilated front brake disc, steering knuckle with integrated
brake carrier:
|

21.0 mm
|
Ventilated front brake disc, steering knuckle without integrated
brake carrier:

22.0 mm
|
Rear brake disc, 4-hole/5-hole:

|

Inspect
Check surface characteristics of brake disc: The brake disc must
be precision turned if there are signs of overheating or scoring
– see operation "Brake Disc, Precision Turning".
Install
Install brake linings – see operation "Brake Linings
– Front Wheel Brakes, Remove and Install (Steering Knuckle
with Integrated Brake Carrier", "Brake Linings – Front Wheel
Brake, Remove and Install (Steering Knuckle without Integrated
Brake Carrier)" or "Brake Linings – Rear Wheel Brake, Remove
and Install".
