Remove centre console cover. Unclip folding cover (2) for parking brake lever from centre console and pull up to handle (1).

Slacken parking brake cable at parking brake lever by turning back the adjusting nut (3).

Note:   When lifting at lifting points of the vehicle, ensure that all fastening bolts for the rear axle and reference points for the centring equipment remain accessible.

In addition, for Astra-G Eco take care that lifting platform supports do not interfere with disassembly of air baffle.

  Remove

Remove rear wheels.

For Astra-G Eco: Remove fastening nuts (1) and clip (3) for left portion of air baffle from vehicle underbody. Remove left portion of air baffle from vehicle underbody. Remove fastening nuts (2) and clip (3) for right portion of air baffle from vehicle underbody. Remove right hand portion of air baffle from vehicle underbody.

Unclip parking brake cable (2) at connector (1).

Disconnect wiring harness plug for oxygen sensor and release wiring harness from fastenings. Remove front exhaust pipe and central silencer.

Detach rubber exhaust mounts (4) for centre silencer from vehicle underbody.

Remove fastening nuts (3) for centre silencer heat shield and remove heat shield from vehicle underbody.

Twist front parking brake cable (5) 90° and detach from parking brake compensator.

Detach parking brake cable from rear axle retainer, rear axle bracket and fuel tank (6).

Attach parking brake cable in retainers on rear axle, rear axle bracket and to retainers (1) on fuel tank.

Attach front parking brake cable (2) in parking brake compensator and twist by 90° – ensure that the T-piece at the end of the front parking brake cable is seated correctly in parking brake compensator (arrow). Slide protective sleeve for front parking brake cable (4) in direction of parking brake compensator until over the bead (3) on parking brake cable.

Clip parking brake cable in new connector.

Attach heat shield for central silencer (7) to vehicle underbody – tightening torque 2 Nm / 1.5 lbf. ft.

Install front exhaust pipe (5) and central silencer (6). Lay wiring harness for oxygen sensor and connect wiring harness plug. Attach rubber exhaust mount for central silencer (8) to vehicle underbody.

For Astra-G Eco: Put right hand portion of air baffle in place on vehicle underbody. Install fastening nuts (2) for right portion of air baffle to vehicle underbody – Tightening torque 2.2 Nm / 1.6 lbf. ft. Put left hand portion of air baffle in place on vehicle underbody. Install fastening nuts (1) for left portion of air baffle to vehicle underbody. Install clip (3) on both sides.

Mount rear wheels – tightening torque 110 Nm / 81 lbf. ft.
