Parking Brake, Adjust

  Remove

For vehicles with drum brakes: Adjust drum brake – see operation "Drum Brake, Adjust".

Remove centre console cover. Unclip folding cover for parking brake (2) from centre console and pull upwards.

  Adjust

The adjustment nut (3) must be completely undone. Put parking brake lever (1) into "0" position (released). Depress brake pedal at least 5 times to adjust play of parking brake to brake caliper or brake drum – after every time the brake is actuated ensure that the brake pedal goes back into the initial position (completely disengaged). For vehicles with drum brakes, the adjustment lever must no longer be heard to skip.

Pull parking brake lever 5 times to the stop and release again.

Tighten parking brake lever (1) to 3rd detent and twist adjustment nut on parking brake lever until the rear wheels are difficult to turn. The braking effect must be the same on both wheels.

  Remove

Clip folding cover for parking brake lever to centre console. Attach centre console cover – ensure that the guides (1) are seated correctly in the centre console.

Note:   For vehicles with rear disc brakes and old brake callipers (prior to MY '02), a clearance of 2.5 mm on each side is permissible at the rear brake calliper on both vehicle sides between the actuating lever and the stop after adjusting the parking brake.
