Brake Pedal, Remove and Install – LHD

Remove
Remove instrument assembly – see operation "Instrument
Assembly, Remove and Install or Replace" in group "N".
Detach bracket for instrument assembly wiring harness plug and
place to one side. Detach fastening bolts (1) for pedal support
from steering crossmember.
Remove driver's side footwell panelling.
Remove brake lamp switch – see operation "Brake Lamp
Switch, Remove and Install" in group "N".
Vehicles with diesel engine: Remove brake pedal – see
operation "Brake Pedal, Remove and Install" in group "J".
Detach return spring (3) for brake pedal.
Slightly bend retention plate (2) with screwdriver and remove
from pedal bolts. Withdraw pedal bolts from brake servo piston
rods.

Detach fastening nuts (2) for brake servo from pedal
support.
Detach fastening nuts (1) from bulkhead. Remove pedal support
with brake pedal.
Tilt pedal support with brake pedal upwards and remove by
turning (see Illus. G 3793) – thereby ensuring that attaching
parts and wiring harness are not damaged.

Install
Mount pedal support with brake pedal on bulkhead and
hand-tighten new fastening nuts.
Attach pedal support to steering crossmember – tightening
torque 20 Nm / 15 lbf. ft.
Tighten fastening nuts for pedal support and brake servo –
tightening torque 20 Nm / 15 lbf. ft.
Attach pedal bolts with new retention plate. Attach return
spring for brake pedal.
For vehicles with diesel engine: Install accelerator pedal
– see operation "Accelerator Pedal, Remove and Install" in
group "J".
Install brake lamp switch – see operation "Brake Lamp
Switch, Remove and Install" in group "N".
Install lower instrument panel cover and driver's side footwell
panelling.
Install instrument assembly – see operation "Instrument
Assembly, Remove and Install or Replace" in group "N".
