Gasket for End Shield, Replace
(F13/F13+/F17/F17+/F18)
Note: Transmission
remains installed.
Remove
Remove battery (3).
Remove battery support.
If present: remove upper engine cover (1).
If present: Remove lower engine compartment cover – see
operation "Lower Engine Compartment Cover, Remove and Install" in
group "A".
Remove gearshift cover (2) – see operation "Gearshift
Cover, Remove and Install and/or Seal (F13/F13+/F17/F17+/F18)".
Remove reversing lamps switch (4).

Attach MKM-883-1 (1).
Insert KM-6001-A.
Remove fastening bolt for front torque support (3). Remove
fastening bolt for left engine bracket (2).
Raise engine with MKM-883-1.
Remove KM-6001-A. Lower engine until the MKM-883-1 chains are
still just under tension.
Remove front left wheel.
Remove end shield cover (4).

For F18 transmissions: Remove rocker arm for gear set brake (1)
– release retaining pin using small screwdriver and remove in
direction of arrow.
Caution
Do not drop retainer pin into transmission housing.
Remove fastening bolts from end shield (x 4)

Note: KM-6155 is
absolutely essential, otherwise the central release will be damaged
when dismantling the end shield of the shaft seal ring.
Remove
Insert KM-6155 (2) in threaded bores.
Remove end shield (1).
Note magnet (3) and spacer washer (4) for reverse idler gear
axle (remove if necessary).
Caution
F17/F17+ transmission: pay attention to fit bolts (arrows) and
guide sleeves.
Axle shaft may not rest on front axle body.
Fluid escapes, place collecting basin underneath. Do not damage
attaching parts, brake hoses etc.

Inspect
Check all parts for damage and wear.
Check seating of magnet (1) and washer (2).
Install
Cement new gasket with bearing grease on transmission.
Insert end shield (4) into transmission housing.
Remove KM-6155 (3).
Attach end shield to transmission with
new fastening bolts (arrows) –
Tightening torque:

Attach end shield cover to
transmission with new gasket:
All transmissions except for F18:

Caution
Pay attention to fit bolts (arrows) on F17/F17+
Install
Install front wheel – tightening torque 110 Nm / 81 lbf.
ft.
Raise engine as far as possible with MKM-883-1 (1).
Insert KM-6001-A and lower engine onto KM-6001-A.
Attach fastening screws (2) for left engine bracket –
tightening torque 55 Nm / 41 lbf. ft.
Install fastening screws for front torque support (3) –
tightening torque 60 Nm / 44 lbf. ft.
Remove KM-6001-A.
Remove MKM-883-1.

Install reversing lamp switch with new seal ring on transmission
– tightening torque 20 Nm / 15 lbf. ft.
For transmission F18: Insert rocker arm for gear set brake (1)
and secure with retainer pin in direction of arrow.
All transmissions: Attach gearshift cover (1) to transmission
– see operation "Gearshift Cover, Remove and Install and/or
Seal (F13/F13+/F17/F17+/F18)".
If present: Install upper engine compartment cover –
tightening torque 7 Nm / 5 lbf. ft.
Install battery support – tightening torque 15 Nm / 11
lbf. ft.
Install battery.
Inspect

|
Check level of transmission fluid and correct as necessary
– see operation "Transmission Fluid Level, Check and Correct
(F13/F13+/F17/F17+/F18)".
Install
If present: Install lower engine compartment cover – see
operation "Lower Engine Compartment Cover, Remove and Install" in
group "A".
