Transmission Fluid Level, Check and Correct (F13/F13+/F17/F17+/F18)

  Remove

If present: Remove lower engine compartment cover – see operation "Lower Engine Compartment Cover, Remove and Install" in group "A".

Note:   In doing so ensure that the production transmission fluid level can always be below the checking aperture – up to 16 mm. The transmission fluid level need only be checked after repairs or maintenance work on the transmission and corrected if necessary.

  Inspect

Remove fluid checking bolt: For F13/F13+ and F17/F17+ – inspection aperture to left rear in direction of travel (II); for F18 – inspection aperture to right rear in direction of travel (I). Check transmission fluid level – transmission must be topped up to lower edge of inspection aperture.

If necessary: Remove reversing lamp switch (1) and charge transmission fluid until it escapes at checking aperture.

  Install

Attach fluid drain plug to transmission – tightening torque 4 Nm / 3 lbf. ft. + 45° to 135°. Attach reversing lamp switch with new seal ring to transmission – tightening torque 20 Nm / 15 lbf. ft.

If present: Install lower engine compartment cover – see operation "Lower Engine Compartment Cover, Remove and Install" in group "A".
