Electro-Hydraulic Power Steering (EHPS)

All Astra-G models are equipped as standard with the new E lectro- h ydraulic P ower S teering (EHPS).

The EHPS components are installed as one compact unit with the steering gear on the front axle body.

Notice:

The electro-hydraulic power steering systems are built by two different suppliers. The main distinguishing feature is the shape of the fluid reservoir.

- Round fluid reservoir:

TRW

- Rectangular fluid reservoir:

Delphi

5.1   Electro-Hydraulic Power Steering (EHPS) (continued)

The electro-hydraulic power steering has the following advantages compared to conventional power steering:

•  Savings in fuel consumption

•  Weight reduction thanks to compact design

•  Hydraulic system decoupled from engine

The electro-hydraulic supply unit consists of the following components:

1  Fluid reservoir with dipstick

2  Resonator and pressure limiting valve

3  Pump unit (gear pump)

4  Maintenance-free electric motor without brushes

5  Motor housing

6  Control electronics

• Service

The electro-hydraulic supply unit must not be opened. If a malfunction occurs, the complete unit must always be replaced.

Removal and installation is described in the "Astra-G Service Instructions, group M".

The EHPS system does not have a diagnostic interface.
