Power Steering Hydraulic Lines, Remove and Install
(Vehicles with LHD, EHPS Gen. I, Delphi)
Remove
If present: Remove lower engine compartment cover – for
vehicles with diesel engine: see operation "Lower Engine
Compartment Cover, Remove and Install" in group "A".
Support transmission and remove engine damping block bracket
from rear of transmission and front axle body.
For vehicles with shift guide: remove fastening bolts for shift
guide bracket from front axle body and twist shift guide bracket to
the side.
Caution
Position collecting pan underneath unit to catch escaping
hydraulic fluid.
Remove
Remove steering gear hydraulic lines – see operation
"Steering Gear Hydraulic Lines, Remove and Install (Vehicles with
LHD, EHPS Gen. I, Delphi)".
Detach pressure and return line bracket from steering gear.
Detach return line (1) from steering gear and fluid
reservoir.
Detach pressure line (2) from steering gear and
electro-hydraulic supply unit.
Note: New seal rings
must always be used when installing hydraulic lines.
Install
Attach pressure line to steering gear and electro-hydraulic
supply unit – tightening torque 27.5 Nm / 20.5 lbf. ft.
Attach return line to steering gear and fluid reservoir –
tightening torque 27.5 Nm / 20.5 lbf. ft.
Attach pressure and return line bracket to steering gear –
tightening torque 4 Nm / 3 lbf. ft.

Install steering gear hydraulic lines – see operation
"Steering Gear Hydraulic Lines, Remove and Install (Vehicles with
LHD, EHPS Gen. I, Delphi)".
Attach rear engine damping block bracket to transmission –
tightening torque 80 Nm / 59 lbf. ft.
Attach engine damping block bracket to rear of engine damping
block – tightening torque 55 Nm / 40.5 lbf. ft.
For vehicles with shift guide: attach shift guide bracket to
front axle body – tightening torque 20 Nm / 15 lbf. ft.
If present: Install lower engine compartment cover – for
vehicles with diesel engine: see operation "Lower Engine
Compartment Cover, Remove and Install" in group "A".
Charge and bleed hydraulic system – see operation
"Hydraulic System, Charge and Bleed (EHPS Gen. I)".
