Steering Gear Hydraulic Lines, Remove and Install
(EHPS Gen. I, TRW)
Remove
If present: Remove lower engine compartment cover – for
vehicles with diesel engine: see operation "Lower Engine
Compartment Cover, Remove and Install" in group "A".
Caution
Place collecting pan underneath and collect escaping hydraulic
fluid.
Remove
For RHD vehicles: Detach electro-hydraulic supply unit with
bracket from front axle body.
If fitted: Detach retaining clamps (2) for hydraulic lines.
Detach lines (1) and (4) from steering gear feed.
Detach lines (1) and (3) from steering gear housing.

Note: New seal rings
must always be used when installing hydraulic lines.
Install
Loosely attach lines to steering gear housing.
Attach lines to steering gear feed – ensure that the
Teflon ring is not damaged – tightening torque 30 Nm / 22
lbf. ft.
Tighten lines to steering gear housing – tightening torque
30 Nm / 22 lbf. ft.
If fitted: Reattach retaining clamps for hydraulic lines (2
off).
For RHD vehicles: Reattach electro-hydraulic supply unit with
bracket to front axle body – tightening torque 22 Nm / 16
lbf. ft.
If present: Install lower engine compartment cover – for
vehicles with diesel engine: see operation "Lower Engine
Compartment Cover, Remove and Install" in group "A".
