Field Remedy: 1882

Remedy:

In case of customer complaint replace the fuel metering unit at the high
pressure pump.

Warning:
Fuel escapes – observe safety measures and national legislation.

Working Procedure:

 1. Disconnect battery.
 2. Open service flap of lower engine compartment cover.
 3. Place fluid basin underneath.
 4. Clean fuel metering unit (Picture I, 1).

    Important:
    Fuel metering unit and area around the fuel metering unit must be
    completely clean and grease free!

5. Dry fuel metering unit and area around the fuel metering unit.
 6. Loosen 3x bolt of fuel metering unit.
 7. Clean fuel metering unit again.
 8. Dry fuel metering unit and area around the fuel metering unit.
 9. Remove fuel metering unit.

    Important:
    Do not cant fuel metering unit!

    - separate wiring harness plug
    - unscrew 3x bolt
    - turn and pull-out fuel metering unit

10. Check opening of fuel metering unit for dirt.

    Important:
    Remove dirt inside the opening using a lint-free cloth.

11. Oil seal ring using fresh engine oil (Picture II, 1).

12. Install new fuel metering unit.

    Important:
    Do not cant fuel metering unit!

    - install fuel metering unit horizontal and turn it
    - tighten 3x bolt 6 Nm
    - connect wiring harness plug

13. Clean fuel metering unit.
14. Dry fuel metering unit and area around the fuel metering unit.
15. Close service flap of lower engine compartment cover.
16. Connect battery.
17. Program volatile memories.
18. Check fuel system for leaks.
19. Read-out and delete fault memory.
20. Carry-out road test.
21. Raise engine revolutions 3x up to engine cut-out speed.

    Important:
    Engine oil temperature must be at least +80 °C!

22. Check fuel system for leaks.
23. Read-out fault memory.
