Control unit for ABS hydraulic modulator, replace
(ABS 8.1; ESP 8.1 ESP)
Warning: Before
repair work on the ABS hydraulic modulator or the control unit for
the ABS hydraulic modulator, it is essential to read the repair
instructions.
 Remove

Remove ABS hydraulic modulator 
|
| 2. |
Remove control module (1) for ABS hydraulic modulator
| • |
Clamp hydraulic unit in vice with control module uppermost
Note: Use protective
jaw.

Unscrew 4x bolts (arrow) and remove control unit
|
|
|
|
| 3. |
Check gasket on control module is in perfect condition and
clean. Control module must be replaced if gasket is damaged.
Note: A check is only
necessary, when the old control unit is to be re-fitted.

Clean sealing surfaces on hydraulic unit
Note: A non-metalic
scraper and a lint-free cotton cloth are included in the set. If
there are significant deposits or gasket residues, douse the cloth
with white spirit.

Install
Important: Protect open hydraulic
modulator against damage of the valve bodies and of the pressure
sensor with leaf contacts (ESP system). The leaf contact pins of
the pressure sensor and the contacts of the control unit must not
be touched or adjusted. Do not apply voltage to the contacts. Never
press down on the control unit lid area, only ever press down on
the outer edge of the housing.

Attach control module (1) for ABS hydraulic modulator
| • |
Place the control unit centered and carefully press down onto
the hydraulic modulator whilst holding it in position
Note: Overcome
insertion resistance by using the pump motor contacts
|

Screw in 4x new bolts (arrow) working diagonally 1.5 Nm
Note: Only insert
screws until the head is flush with the control module.

Important: You must follow the
tightening torque stipulation!
|
| • |
Tighten 4x bolts (arrows) working diagonally 3 Nm
Note: Ensure the
control module is arranged correctly on the hydraulic unit.
Hydraulic unit must be replaced if screws do not go in properly or
starting torque is not reached.
