Complaint |
Customer complains about radiator fan
running permanently, SVS on, P00B3 and/or P00B6 set in ECU. |
Cause |
Coolant temperature sensor in radiator
damaged because of water entrance. |
Production |
Open. |
Remedy
In case of customer complaint install new coolant temperature sensor
in radiator and replace sensor plug by using the repair kit.
Working Procedure:
1. Place basin underneath
2. Drain coolant (Picture I)
- Install hose (2) to radiator
- Open valve (1) in arrow direction
3. Remove hose from radiator
- Close valve
4. Expose coolant temperature sensor wiring harness (Picture II)
- Disconnect wiring harness electrical connector (1)
- Remove wiring harness (2) from radiator
- Open cable strap (arrow)
Note:
Picture II shows A14XER radiator.
The wiring harness fixation at the A14NEL radiator is similar.
5. Remove coolant temperature sensor (Picture III)
- Remove retaining clip (1)
- Remove coolant temperature sensor (2) from radiator
6. Install NEW coolant temperature sensor
Important:
Pay attention to correct fit of the O-ring and the retaining clip!
- Install retaining clip
7. Cut-off coolant temperature sensor wiring harness electrical
connector
Note:
Cut-off the electrical connector right behind the housing.
8. Shorten repair wiring harness
- Shorten cables to 60 mm
9. Install repair wiring harness
- Strip cable ends
- Slide 2 heat shrinkable tubes over the cables
- Crimp cables to each other
- Heat-up 2 heat shrinkable tube over the crimping
10. Install ribbed tube to extended wiring harness
- Fix ribbed tube using textile tape
11. Align coolant temperature sensor (Picture IV)
- Carefully turn coolant temperature sensor counterclockwise
Measurement "A" = 30°
Important:
If the coolant temperature sensor will be turned too much, the
retaining clip will be spread and the coolant temperature sensor
becomes leaky.
12. Route coolant temperature sensor wiring harness (Picture V)
Important:
Route the wiring harness in the area of the wiring harness
electrical connector in a downwards curve.
The lowest point of the wiring harness has to be below the coolant
temperature sensor, that water running downwards the wiring
harness drips-off at the lowest point and does not enter
the wiring harness electrical connector.
- Install wiring harness bracket (1) to radiator
- Connect wiring harness electrical connector (2)
- Fix wiring harness using a cable strap (arrow)
- Fix wiring harness to wiring harness bracket (1) using
a cable strap
13. Charge and bleed cooling system
- see working procedure "Cooling System, Charge and Bleed",
