Required commissioning routines for the Easytronic system for service/repair work (M20 MTA)

Note:   During vehicle repairs different system components have to be changed and repaired respectively. The following table lists the commissioning routines required after repair work so that all of the commissioning steps are carried out for the Easytronic system.

The electronic control unit may only be removed and reinstalled once. If the electronic control unit is removed again, it must be replaced.

Notes on servicing

Note:   Basic measures that should be taken into consideration when servicing to ensure optimisation of repair work:

  • Obtain the version number of the most up to date TECH 2 software with the aid of Opel Service Information (TIS) and if this does not correspond to the software version number present in the diagnostic unit, perform a software update on the TECH 2 software using the TIS "Transfer diagnostic software" system.
  • In case of service or repair with TECH 2, from the main menu "Additional functions", perform menu point "Read identification control unit" and compare the software status of the Easytronic control unit with that currently given in the Opel Service Information (TIS). If a later Easytronic software version is present in TIS, perform a software update on the Easytronic software using "Service Programming System (SPS)".
  • Delete the Easytronic error memory after each service/repair and perform a test drive. Then read out the error memory again and if necessary delete any remaining errors.
  • The control units of two vehicles cannot be exchanged, irrespective of whether they are from similar or different vehicle variants.

Parking the vehicle

To prevent the vehicle from rolling, the parking brake must be applied when the vehicle is parked.

Leaving the vehicle

Do not leave the vehicle if a gear is engaged or the engine is running. In such cases, a warning buzzer sounds when the driver's door is opened.

Service Vehicle Soon (SVS)

Some error memory entries generated by Easytronic in the event of an error result in activation of the SVS warning lamp. In such cases, continued driving is possible, but a workshop should be consulted immediately in order to have the error located and remedied.

Brake Fluid for the MTA-Release System - DOT4+

The brake fluid for the release system must be changed at the specified intervals. It is essential to use only the brake fluids "BASF Hydraulan 404 DOT4" or "Shell Brake Fluid DOT4 LW" specified by Opel/Marelli. Even a slight contamination of brake fluid with grease or oil (e.g. greasing the drip line for ease of application, or topping up brake fluid from a container contaminated with mineral oil), leads to a failure of the emitter cylinder and hence failure of the clutch actuator or central release!

Hydraulic fluid for MTA hydraulic system - CS-Speed oil

The hydraulic fluid for the MTA hydraulic system is maintenance-free. It is essential to use only the hydraulic fluid "Tutela CS-Speed oil" specified by Opel/Marelli. Even slight contamination of the hydraulic fluid with grease or oil can lead to failure of the MTA system.

Clutch overheating

When stopping on hills, pull the hand brake or actuate the foot brake! When in gear, do not keep the vehicle stationary by increasing the engine speed. This avoids overheating or damaging the clutch. Also, do not actuate at the foot brake while simultaneously actuating the accelerator pedal when in gear. This damages the clutch and must be avoided.

Signal check via data list and additional data list

In order to carry out an analysis during the service it is necessary to read out various MTA-specific switches and signals using TECH 2.
