Brake Caliper, Replace

 

Close brake fluid reservoir with Blind Screw Cap 03.9302 0784.2/02.

Remove cable in vehicles with fluid level warning indicator.

 

Raise vehicle and remove corresponding wheel.

Mark installation position relative to wheel hub.

Unscrew brake pressure hose from brake caliper and in doing so, note seal rings on the hollow bolt.

Use chisel to loosen protective caps from seat on brake caliper and pry caps off with screwdriver.

Unbolt brake caliper mounting from steering knuckle and remove brake caliper.

Bolt new brake caliper to steering knuckle and tighten bolt to 95 Nm/70 lbf. ft.

Recut threads of bolts.

Thinly coat bolts with Locking Compound 15 10 177 90 167 347.

 

Bolt brake pressure hose with hollow bolt and new seal rings to brake caliper and tighten bolt to 40 Nm/29.5 lbf. ft.

Check movability of brake caliper.

Install outer caps against stop on brake caliper with KM - 404 - 1 and KM - 404 - 3.

Always use new caps.

The protective caps must be seated uniformly on the brake caliper.

 

Install brake linings - ensure proper seating of retaining pins.

Mount front wheel and tighten to 90 Nm/66 lbf. ft.

Remove blind screw cap and bleed brake system.

Check brake system for leaks.
