Complaint:

Noises or Vibrations

Cracking noise from the area of B-pillar when slowly driving on uneven road surface.

 

Cause:

Reinforcement roof frame rubs on to door frame aperture at the intersection of the B-pillar /roof.

 

Production Solution:

As of V.I.N. No. S 1037366 the clearance reinforcement roof frame / door frame aperture is greater.

 

Special part:

No

 

Remedy:

Increase the clearance of the reinforcement roof frame as described.

 

 

Eliminate the cracking noise from the area of B-pillar:

 

1.    Detach the outer covering (trim strip).

2.    Unscrew both rubber cover of B-pillar.

3.    Unscrew upper fixing device of the outer covering of the B-pillar.

       For better detachment of the fixing device first cut the mask in the area of the fixing device with a cutter.

4.    Place the center punch horizontal in the curve at the intersection of the B-pillar /roof and punch at 2 points (A) with a distance of 15 mm.

5.    Drill the outer sheet at the 2 punched points with 4 mm drill (as with spot welding), clean off the swarfs.

6.    Hit the inner reinforcement with a drift punch of 3.0 - 3.4 mm to the inside.

7.    Prime the holes and fill them with silicone sealing compound and finally paint.

8.    Assemble the trim parts in reverse order.
