For vehicles with manual seat backrest adjuster: Handwheel for seat backrest adjuster (2).

Cover for outer seat backrest adjuster (1).

For vehicles with electrically adjustable front seat: Lever off switch for seat adjustment (6), switch assembly (5) from cover of outer seat backrest adjuster.

Cover for inner seat backrest adjuster (3).

Front seat backrest panelling (4), as of Model Year '99: Front seat backrest pocket – see operation "Front Seat Backrest Pocket, Remove and Install (as of Model Year '99)".

Vehicles with side airbag: Release wiring harness plug for side airbag (3) and remove.

For vehicles with electrically adjustable front seat: Release wiring harness plug for seat backrest adjuster (1) and disconnect.

Detach upholstery in the lower area of front seat backrest. Release wiring harness for seat backrest adjuster and wiring harness for side airbag from wiring trough and remove from front seat backrest.

For vehicles with seat heating: Release wiring harness plug for seat heating (2) and disconnect.

Front seat backrest.

Front seat backrest to front seat – tightening torque 45 Nm / 33 lbf. ft. Wiring harness plug for seat heating, wiring harness plug for side airbag, wiring harness plug for seat backrest adjuster motor, insert wiring harness plug for side airbag and wiring harness plug for seat backrest adjuster motor into wiring trough. Front seat backrest upholstery, front seat backrest upholstery to seat backrest, front seat backrest panelling or front seat backrest pocket.

For vehicles with manual seat backrest adjuster: Adjust front seat backrest. Set both front seat backrest adjusters to an angle of approx. 90° in relation to the seat rail. Adjust the mark (1) on the drive according to the illustration. Cover for outer seat backrest adjuster, seat backrest adjuster handwheel.
