Con-rod Bearing Clearance, Check (Determine Bearing Clearance with Micrometer and Inside Micrometer) > < Crankshaft Speed Sensor Damaged or Broken

Con-Rod Bearing Play, Check (Determine Con-Rod Bearing Play with Plastigage)

  Remove

Remove con-rod bearing caps.

  Install

Place plastigage (1) on the oil-free bearing journals of the crankshaft. Install con-rod bearing caps (with old bolts) at con-rod – tightening torque 20 Nm / 15 lbf. ft. + 70°.

Note:   Plastigage is available via the catalogue on "Opel/Vauxhall Workshop Equipment" for different tolerance ranges.

  Remove

Do not turn crankshaft. Carefully remove con-rod bearing caps.

  Inspect

Compare width of crushed plastic thread with measuring scale (1). Permitted con-rod bearing play: 0.020 to 0.055 mm.

  Install

Con-rod and con-rod bearing cover are marked with same pairing number (2). Do not interchange. For con-rod bearing shell selection – see "Technical Data".

Install con-rod bearing caps with new bolts at con-rod – tightening torque 20 Nm / 15 lbf. ft. + 70°.
