Cylinder Block and Crank Drive
The grey cast iron cylinder block is torsionally resistant and designed to minimize acoustic emissions. A short cooling jacket with a smaller amount of coolant reduces the warm - up phase.
The crankshaft is forged from high strength steel and has seven bearings, ensuring high rigidity and stability. Complete mass compensation is attained with 12 counterweights.
The torsional vibration damper is axially decoupled from the crankshaft; this additional dampening of longitudinal crankshaft vibration reduces noise emissions even further.
Piston cooling is provided by separate oil ducts with oil spray nozzles and central pressure regulation.
The upper bearing shells of the die - forged con - rods are coated with a special overlay with exceptional ability and low wear properties, even under extreme loads.
