Coolant Pump, Remove and Install > < Oil Pump, Remove and Install

Thermostat, Remove and Install

  Remove

Remove charge air pipe – see operation "Charge Air Pipe, Remove and Install".

Remove lower engine compartment cover.

Open coolant drain plugs on radiator and cylinder block and drain coolant. Collect escaping coolant.

Version with AC: Remove visco-fan – see operation "Visco-fan, Remove and Install".

Remove coolant pipe (1) from timing case.

Remove coolant hose from thermostat.

Remove thermostat housing (2) from cylinder head. The thermostat is replaced together with the thermostat housing.

  Install

Insert seal (1) into thermostat housing. Insert thermostat into thermostat housing.

Note:   Insert thermostat bleeding valve (2) into the guide.

  Install

Attach thermostat housing to cylinder head – 10 Nm / 7 lbf. ft.

Connect coolant hose to thermostat.

Connect coolant pipe and new seal to timing case – tightening torque 9 Nm / 6.5 lbf. ft.

Version with AC: Install visco-fan – see operation "Visco-fan, Remove and Install".

Close coolant drain bolt on radiator and cylinder block. Install lower engine compartment cover - tightening torque 5 Nm / 3.7 lbf. ft.

Install charge air pipe – see operation "Charge Air Pipe, Remove and Install". Top up and bleed cooling system – see operation "Cooling System, Top Up and Bleed" and "Cooling System, Check for Leaks".
