Attaching Parts from Cylinder Head, Detach and Reattach

  Remove

Detach heat shields (1) and (2) from exhaust manifold.

Detach exhaust manifold (3) from cylinder head.

  Clean

Remove gasket remnants and clean sealing surfaces.

  Remove

For X 25 XE, X 30 XE: Detach DIS ignition module from DIS ignition module carrier. Detach DIS ignition module carrier from cylinder head of cylinders 2-4-6.

Remove spark plugs with KM-194-E.

Note:   Before removal of camshaft bearing caps from cylinder head – note identification marks on camshaft bearing caps!

  Remove

Detach the bolts of the camshaft bearing caps working in inward spiral from outside in steps of 1/2 to 1 turn. The camshaft must be released uniformly from the bearing seats.

Remove intake camshaft. Detach seal ring from camshaft.

Remove hydraulic valve lifters from cylinder head with KM-845 and lay aside in series so that hydraulic valve lifters can be allocated to the valves on reinstallation. Place hydraulic valve lifters to one side in installation position.

  Clean

Clean all removed parts.

Note:   Check/overhaul cylinder head – see operation "Cylinder Head and Attaching Parts, Check and Align" and/or "Cylinder Head, Overhaul".

  Install

Coat sliding surfaces of hydraulic valve lifters and camshaft with MoS 2 lubricating paste (grey).

Apply surface sealant (green) to sealing surfaces (arrows) of guide bearings.

Insert intake camshaft in cylinder head.

Install camshaft bearing caps – identification numbers on camshaft bearing caps must match those on cylinder head.

Assemble camshaft bearing caps from the inside outwards. Fit fastening bolts in stages – with 1/2 to 1 turn.

Torque

Camshaft bearing cover to cylinder head – 8 Nm / 6 lbf. ft.

  Install

Coat sealing lip of seal ring with silicone grease (white). Press seal ring with KM-422 (1) into camshaft bearing cap – use bolt and washer of camshaft sprocket.

Install spark plugs with KM-194-E into cylinder head – tightening torque 25 Nm / 18 lbf. ft.

For X 25 XE, X 30 XE:

Attach DIS ignition module carrier to cylinder head of cylinders 2-4-6 –
 

M8 bolt tightening torque:

25 Nm / 18 lbf. ft.
 

M10 bolt tightening torque:

40 Nm / 30 lbf. ft.

Attach DIS ignition module to DIS ignition module carrier – tightening torque 8 Nm / 6 lbf. ft. Attach exhaust manifold with new gasket and new fastening nuts to cylinder head – tightening torque 20 Nm / 15 lbf. ft.

Install heat shields to exhaust manifold –

M6 bolt tightening torque:

8 Nm / 6 lbf. ft.
 

M8 bolt tightening torque:

20 Nm / 15 lbf. ft.
