Ignition OFF

 

Disconnect engine speed plug

 

Connect checking spark plug to separate ignition cable

 

Disconnect ignition cable for cyl. 2 or cyl. 5

 

Connect separate ignition cable to ignition coil cyl. 2 or cyl. 5

 

Ignition ON

 

Engine OFF

 

Press key F5 in the system main menu, select the desired test using the arrow keys and confirm with YES.

Follow the instructions in the TECH 1 display.

 

Note:

The checking spark plug is actuated at a frequency of 5 Hz (actuation duration 10 ms).

The check is completed after a maximum of 30 s.

 

Ignition spark visible at each checking spark plug

Notes on Trouble - shooting:

Nominal Value:

Cause of Fault:

·   Disconnect control unit K 61 from wiring harness

·   Ignition ON

·   Using multimeter, check voltage at control unit K 61 / Ter. 20 to ground

 

 

11.5 to 13.5 V

·   Short circuit or lead interruption

     - from control unit K 61 / Ter. 20 to ignition coil L 2 / Ter. 1

     - from ignition coil L 2 / Ter. 4 to Ter. 15

 

·   Ignition OFF

·   Using multimeter, check from Motronic control unit plug K 61 / Ter. 2 to ground

 

approx. 0 W

 

·   Short circuit or lead interruption from Motronic control unit K 61 / Ter. 2 to ground

 

Check only with TECH 80 and DIS checking cable:

·   Connect control unit K 61

·   Connect ignition coil L 2

·   Connect primary signal to ignition coil L 2 with adapter and TECH 80 and start engine

 

300 to 400 V

 

·   Short circuit or lead interruption from

     - control unit K 61 / Ter. 20 to ignition coil L 2 / Ter. 1

·   Ignition coil L 2 defective

·   Control unit K 61 defective

 

Resistance value of ignition coil at 0 to 100° C / 32 to 212° F:

 

Primary side: 0.45 to 0.65

Secondary side: 11 to 16 kW
