  Remove

Disconnect ground cable from battery.

For version with wiring harness plug for crankshaft pulse pick-up on plug strip: Disconnect crankcase ventilation hose (1) from cylinder head cover and from air intake hose. Disconnect crankcase ventilation hose (2) from cylinder head cover.

Note:   There are a total of 6 plug connections on the underside of the plug strip. Illus. E 5392 shows the injector plug connections (positions 1 to 4).

  Remove

Press retaining clip for injectors for 1st cylinder and 4th cylinder in plug strip towards engine side (with screwdriver) – collect retaining clips with bar magnet.

Lift plug strip (1) and disconnect wiring harness plug (2) for crankshaft pulse pick-up from plug strip.

For version with wiring harness plug for crankshaft pulse pick-up outside plug strip: Disconnect wiring harness plug for crankshaft pulse pick-up (3).

Unclip cable for crankshaft pulse pick-up from cylinder head cover and expose – note cable routing.

Remove oil dipstick.

Remove fastening bolt (3) from auxiliary units support and withdraw oil dipstick guide tube (4) from cylinder block.

Suspend engine bridge MKM-883-1 (5) from left engine transportation shackle (1) in combination with securing hook MKM-833-4-A - monitor chain tension.

Detach upper fastening bolt for engine bracket from cylinder block and detach fastening nut (2) from engine damping block.

Lift engine using MKM-883-1 in combination with securing hook MKM-833-4-A - ensure that no attached parts are damaged.

Detach lower fastening bolts for engine bracket (1) from cylinder block and lay engine bracket aside.

Disconnect wiring harness plug for dynamic oil level control (2) and lay aside.

Detach crankshaft pulse pick-up (1) from cylinder block with seal ring – note cable routing.

  Install

Guide cable for crankshaft pulse pick-up through auxiliary units support and attach crankshaft pulse pick-up to cylinder head with new seal ring – tightening torque 8 Nm / 6 lbf. ft.

Clip cable for crankshaft pulse pick-up to cylinder head cover – note cable routing.

For version with wiring harness plug for crankshaft pulse pick-up outside plug strip: Connect wiring harness plug for crankshaft pulse pick-up.

For version with wiring harness plug for crankshaft pulse pick-up on plug strip: Raise plug strip and connect wiring harness plug for crankshaft pulse pick-up to plug strip.

Caution

If the spring clips (1) for the injectors are incorrectly positioned, this will prevent the plug strip from engaging. Align all spring clips properly so that correct plug strip contact with the injectors is guaranteed.

  Install

Attach plug strip (1) to injectors. Ensure correct seating, plug strip must engage audibly.

Attach crankcase ventilation hoses to cylinder head cover and to air intake hose.

Connect dynamic oil level monitor wiring harness connector.

Attach engine bracket to engine block with lower fastening bolts – moderately tighten fastening bolts.

Attach engine bracket with upper fastening bolt to cylinder block- tightening torque 60 Nm / 44.5 lbf. ft.

Lower engine using MKM-883-1 in combination with securing hook MKM-833-4-A - ensure that lug (1) on engine damping block engages in hole in engine holder. Attach fastening nut (2) to engine damping block - tightening torque 40 Nm / 29.5 lbf. ft.

Remove engine bridge MKM-883-1 with securing hook MKM-833-4-A.

Tighten lower fastening bolts for engine bracket to engine block – tightening torque 60 Nm / 44.5 lbf. ft.
