Toothed Belt Tension, Adjust
|
Note: Adjustment is
carried out with the engine cold – at room temperature.
 Remove
Remove front toothed belt cover – see operation "Front
Toothed Belt Cover, Remove and Install".
 Adjust
Turn the crankshaft in the direction of engine rotation to the
mark "1st Cylinder TDC" (mark 2) using the fastening bolt for the
toothed belt drive gear. At the same time, notches (1) on the
camshaft pulley and rear toothed belt cover must align.
Release toothed belt tension roller fastening bolt. Tension
toothed belt tension roller at adjustment eccentric (4) in
direction of arrow (anticlockwise) until pointer (3) is positioned
just before right stop. Hand-tighten toothed belt tension roller
fastening bolt.
At fastening bolt of toothed belt drive gear, turn crankshaft
two rotations (720°) in engine rotational direction until
timing marks align.

Adjust
|
Adjustment of new toothed belt:
Partly release fastening bolt for
toothed belt tension roller and turn adjuster eccentric in
direction of arrow (clockwise) until:
|
Option I:
|
Pointer (1) for toothed belt tension roller aligns with the
notched mark (2).
|
|
Option II:
|
Pointer (1) for toothed belt tension roller aligns with the
"NEW" notched mark (2).
|
Install
Tighten fastening bolt for toothed belt tension roller –
tightening torque 20 Nm / 15 lbf. ft.
|
|
Inspect
Turn crankshaft another two rotations (720°) in direction of
engine rotation to mark "1st cylinder TDC" and check adjustment of
toothed belt tension roller.
If the pointer for the toothed belt tension roller does not
align with the corresponding notch mark, repeat the adjustment
procedure.
Adjust

Run-in Toothed Belt, Adjust:
Partly release fastening bolt for
toothed belt tension roller and turn adjuster eccentric in
direction of arrow (clockwise) until:
|
Option I:
|
Pointer (1) of toothed belt tension roller is approx. 4 mm to
the left of the notched mark (2).
|
|
Option II:
|
Pointer (1) for toothed belt tension roller aligns with the mark
"USED" (2).
|
Install
Tighten fastening bolt for toothed belt tension roller –
tightening torque 20 Nm / 15 lbf. ft.
|
|
Inspect
Turn crankshaft another two rotations (720°) in direction of
engine rotation to mark "1st cylinder TDC" and check adjustment of
toothed belt tension roller.
If the pointer for the toothed belt tension roller does not
align with the corresponding notch mark, repeat the adjustment
procedure.
Install
Install front toothed belt cover – see operation "Front
Toothed Belt Cover, Remove and Install".
