Toothed Belt Tension, Adjust > < Timing, Adjust

Toothed Belt Tension, Check

Note:   This operation only refers to run-in toothed belts. For installation of a new toothed belt – see operation "Toothed Belt Tension, Adjust". Testing is performed with the engine cold – at room temperature.

  Remove

Remove front toothed belt cover – see operation "Front Toothed Belt Cover, Remove and Install".

  Adjust

Turn the crankshaft in the direction of engine rotation to the mark "1st Cylinder TDC" (mark 2) using the fastening bolt for the toothed belt drive gear. At the same time, notches (1) on the camshaft pulley and rear toothed belt cover must align.

Turn crankshaft slowly and smoothly.

  Inspect

Check installation position of coolant pump – adjust if necessary. Lug (2) on coolant pump must align with counterpart (1) on cylinder block.

Option 1:

The toothed belt tension is correctly adjusted when the pointer (4) of the toothed belt tension roller is approx. 4 mm/0.16 in to the left of the notch (3).

Option 2:

The toothed belt tension is correctly adjusted if the pointer (6) for the toothed belt tension roller aligns with the mark "USED" (5).


If the toothed belt tension is not correctly adjusted – see operation "Toothed Belt Tension, Adjust".

  Install

Install front toothed belt cover – see operation "Front Toothed Belt Cover, Remove and Install".
